As of December 2019, the passengers of AAR bus + bahn will be traveling in new comfortable trains. The Wynental- and Suhrentalbahn (WSB) have placed an order with Stadler Rail for five 3-car EMUs with a length of 60 meters.
Swiss operator WSB is responsible for rail operation on the 1.000 mm gauge lines Aarau – Menziken (Wynental) and Aarau – Schöftland (Suhrental). AAR bus + bahn is the brand name used by WSB for its public transport activities. The order volume for the five trains amounts to approximately 50 million Swiss francs. There is also an option to purchase ten additional trains.
The new EMUs will have 113 seats and 289 standing places. They will be air-conditioned and equipped with electronic passenger information and a modern train safety system. Low-floor sections allow easy, barrier-free boarding for the passengers. Multi-purpose areas in the intermediate cars offer enough space for baby carriages, wheelchairs, luggage and bicycles. All trains will feature a 1st class compartment.
The new vehicles are expected to be operational from schedule change in December 2019. They will be used next to older types of rolling stock.
