[IT] ntv will get 12 Alstom Pendolinos, but of a complete new design

Yes you are looking at a Pendolino train, Alstom’s proven platform for medium high speed trains. But no, it does not look similar to the recently Pendolino’s for operators such as PKP IC, SBB or Trenitalia. The exterior design is new. It was presented on 17.12.2015.

The Italian private passenger rail operator NTV will expand its fleet of high-speed trains with these new 7-car trains. They will be 187 metres long, accommodating around 480 passengers.

At present, NTV operates 25 Alstom AGV trains. The first Pendolinos are currently under construction in Savigliano (IT) and are scheduled to be delivered in late 2017, and will be ready to enter service in early 2018. Originally, NTV wanted eight new trains, but on 07.09.2016, it was announced that the operator already exercised an option for four more. Also the maintenance contract that comes with these trains, was extended from 20 to 30 years for all future Pendolino sets.

NTV intends to intensify the existing services and add new destinations to its network as well. NTV passed the 9-million-passenger milestone in 2015 and is on track to reach 10 million in 2016, all travelling on board Alstom’s trains. The Pendolino will have a maximum speed of 250 km/h, where the AGVs can run at a max of 300 km/h. Both types of vehicles are branded .italo.
