[EU / Expert] Tender Update 03.01.2022

As the new year begins we take a brief look back at the last tender projects from 2021, plus a few of the first ones for 2022. Enjoy:

  • [AT] ÖBB Personenverkehr has awarded its tender for four used identical DMUs for a period of two years and (and 2+2 optional) to DB Regio Netz Verkehrs GmbH.
  • [CZ] ČD will be modernizing its fleet of 22 RS1 (Stadler GTW) DMUs with the help of ŽOS Zvolen. The tender has been awarded on 09.12.2021.
  • [CZ] Čepro of Czechia is looking for one modernized diesel locomotive for 2022, plus an option for a second identical one for 2024. The value of the contract is EUR. 2.7 million and tenders or requests for participation may be submitted by 01.02.202.
  • [DE] As brought up separately in a News Flash Locomotives article, Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft mbH (AVG) of Germany is looking for two hybrid locomotives. Namely, these are an electric+diesel mainline locomotive and a diesel+battery shining locomotive. Tenders and requests to participate can be submitted by 12.01.2022.
  • [DE] DB Regio is calling for a tender for the development, manufacture, delivery, commissioning, and approval of up to five new units, each with up to 600 seats, for local public rail passenger services, including spare parts for services operated under the Berlin-Szczecin Network (BEST) transport tender. The vehicles must be approved for use on the German and Polish rail networks. In the course of the negotiation procedure, negotiations on a battery-electric concept may also be initiated on the basis of information provided by the public transport authority. The vehicles will be put into service for the timetable change in December 2025 at the earliest.
  • [DE] As brought up earlier, Alstom Transport has won DB Regio’s tender for the development, manufacture, delivery, commissioning, and approval of up to seventeen new electric vehicles, each with at least 420 seats, and up to 7 new electric vehicles, each with at least 540 seats, for local public rail transport, including spare parts for services covered by the Main-Weser transport tender. The vehicles will be in service by the December 2024 timetable change. The contract was concluded on 20.10.2021.
  • [DE] As announced earlier, Stadler will be procuring 55 BEMU trainsets to DB Regio. The contract between the two companies was concluded on 16.07.2021.
  • [ES] Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) is looking for five four-car EMUs for its metre-gauge services. The contract is valued at EUR 55.5 million. Requests for participation can be sent by 10.01.2022.
  • [ES] Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC)’s tender for the manufacturing, delivery, and maintenance of four EMUs with a max length of 60 m and a capacity of 325 passengers was awarded to Stadler Rail Valencia. The value of the contract, signed on, 17.12.2021, is EUR 65,1 million.
  • [IE] Iarnród Éireann (IE) has awarded its tender for new commuter vehicles required for the expansion of the existing DART Network to Alstom Transport SA. The contract was signed on 10.11.2021. Read more about the winning concept in our dedicated article.
  • [IT] Ente Autonomo Volturno (EAV) of Italy’s tender for five locomotives including a fifteen year-maintenance has not been awarded. The specified reasoning is “No tenders or requests to participate were received or all were rejected”.
  • [LU] Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois (CFL) intends to procure twenty new four-axle ballast cars, which will have gravity discharge with volume metering at the outlet and will be able to operate at speeds of over 100 km/h.
  • [PL] Polregio has awarded its tender for the lease of two DMUs to SKPL Cargo Spółka for the value of EUR 337.920.
  • [PL] PKP IC will be also leasing DMUs from SKPL Cargo for the value of EUR 4.3 million.
  • [PL] PKP IC did not find a winner for its tender for the lease of five diesel locomotives with train heating capabilities. “No tenders or requests to participate were received or all were rejected”.
  • [PL] Following a contract award, Koleje Śląskie of Poland will be leasing 4 DMUs from Polski Tabor Szynowy Sp. z o.o.
  • [PL] A second tender procedure by Koleje Śląskie, has not been awarded due to “no tenders or requests to participate were received or all were rejected”. This one was for the lease of a single EMU trainset.
  • [PT] Comboios de Portugal (CP) has published a tender for the manufacturing and delivery of a total of 117 EMUs. These include 62 EMUs for urban services and 55 EMUs for regional services, as well options for the delivery of 18 + 18 additional units of each type. The project also includes a rolling stock maintenance workshop and its total value amounts to EUR 819 million.  The deadline for receipt of tenders and requests for participation is 05.04.2021.
  • [SK] Stadler Polska won ZSSK’s tender for 160 km/h, 25 kV/50Hz, 1435 mm-gauge EMUs with a minimum capacity of 530 seats in second class and 30 seats in first class. The contract, valued at EUR 76.9 million was signed on 16.12.2021. Read more about it here.
  • [SK] Slovak rail freight operator ZSSK Cargo tenders the overhaul of 20 Class 742 locomotives, to the same extent as CZ Loko’s EffiShunter 1000-M locomotives for ČD Cargo.
