[locomotive] BR 249 in yellow – First VDM Light for DB Bahnbau in action

In September 2020, Siemens and DB announced a EUR 1 billion mega order for up to 400 locomotives from Siemens. On 18.01.2022, Deutsche Bahn announced it would get 150 locomotives, 4 of which would go to the rail construction department, better known as the DB Bahnbau Gruppe. The first one was released from Siemens’ factory in Munich medio June 2025.

… 248 048 is red, 248 049 is red, 249 050 is red, 249 051 is yellow, 249 052 is red, 249 053 is red…

This was the first hint that the first DB Bahnbau Vectron Dual Mode Light was coming. This company of Deutsch Bahn uses a yellow and grey livery on its locomotive fleet – comprising many old classes of Deutsche Bahn locomotives such as BR 218, Ludmilla, V100 east and west. More recent is the addition of yellow/grey class 143 electrics.
