[FREE / locomotive] The new locomotives of Transport Logistic 2025 [updated]

The Transport Logistic 2025 trade fair will take place from June 2 to 5, 2025, at the Messe München exhibition centre in Munich, Germany. Recognised as the world’s leading trade fair for logistics, mobility, IT, and supply chain management, this biennial event brings together industry leaders, innovators, and decision-makers from around the globe.

Spanning over 150,000 square meters, the fair will feature more than 2,300 exhibitors from over 60 countries, presenting cutting-edge technologies and solutions across various sectors, including freight transport, intralogistics, and digitalisation.

Railcolor News will focus on new locomotive developments, inside the exhibition halls and in the outdoor area, with real-life machines on display. The innovations mostly underscore the industry’s commitment to enhancing efficiency and environmental responsibility in rail freight transport.

Siemens Mobility

Introduction to Smart Asset Suite for Vectron

With its Smart Asset Suite – powered by Railigent X – Siemens Mobility is setting new standards in the digitalisation of rail operations. The comprehensive software solution offers a wide range of applications that enable both the analysis and optimization of daily rail operations. The software not only increases locomotive availability but also accelerates it – ensuring more efficient and reliable service. Available as a digital upgrade for every Vectron locomotive, the Smart Asset Suite is a valuable tool for supporting rail operators in optimizing their operations.

Siemens Mobility is also presenting Railcover, a modular service offering for locomotives, the MoBase online marketplace for railway spare parts, and the Rail service hub, a solution based on Railigent X that offers customers a platform for predictive maintenance and fleet optimisation.

Alstom

Focus on Traxx locomotive platform and comprehensive services portfolio

The well-established Traxx locomotive platform was at the centre of Alstom’s presence at the trade fair. Soon, Traxx will cover all needs from shunting and multi-purpose to heavy freight transport. Equipped with Alstom’s signalling system Onvia Cab, the multi-purpose locomotive Traxx Universal is expected to expand its presence into France before the end of 2025. Over 300 locomotives are on order…

Another core topic was Alstom’s HealthHub, the solution for predictive maintenance and fleet management, continuously monitoring the health of railway assets for maximised reliability and availability, and optimised lifecycle costs. It captures standard and smart data and uses advanced AI-based algorithms to prevent failures before they occur, decreasing downtime and recurring faults by up to 50%.

Alstom also presented the progress in the field of “green re-tractioning”. With the Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine (H2 ICE), Alstom is working on a plug-and-play solution enabling the conversion of diesel shunting locomotives to hydrogen propulsion. After conversion, the locomotive no longer emits CO2 and saves up to 3,000 tonnes of CO2 over a remaining service life of 15-20 years. A prototype will start test operation at a customer site this summer.
