[PL] Godspeed Griffins! Eight electrics for PKP IC leave Nowy Sącz

The first 8 out of 30 Newag Griffin locomotives for PKP Intercity have departed from the town of their construction for a journey to Warsaw. Railcolornews was there to join the farewell party.

On a rainy morning on 21. February 2020, the convoy of 8 Newag Griffin locomotives slowly arrived at platform one in Nowy Sącz station, where the official farewell party took place. After a short ceremony with Newag and local politicians representatives, media and children from local schools, the train left for Warsaw to its new customer.

PKP Intercity has ordered 30 such machines, 16 of them are already in the final assembly hall, as we have witnessed during the Newag production plant tour that we will report on soon. With this purchase, PKP Intercity executed the biggest fleet renewal in its history. They will be operating on lines all across Poland including:

  • Przemyśl – Lublin – Warsaw – Bydgoszcz – Gdynia / Piła – Kołobrzeg / (Gorzów Wielkopolski)
  • Suwałki – Białystok / Lublin – Warsaw – Poznań – Szczecin / Gorzów Wielkopolski / Zielona Góra.
