PKP Intercity has invited interested companies to submit bids for overhaul + modernization of 20 electric locomotives series EU07/EP07, including increasing their maximum speed from 125 km/h to 160 km/h. The “fast” locomotives fleet on PKP Intercity
The vehicle fleet of the passenger operator comprises different types of locomotives, with a top speed above 125 km/h:
- EU07A: 3 locomotives (maximum speed 160km/h);
- EP08: 9 locomotives (maximum speed 140km/h);
- EP09: 46 locomotives (maximum speed 160km/h);
- EU44: 10 locomotives (maximum speed 230km/h, in Poland for now only 160 km/h).
Most of these more than 30 years old, having more than one main overhaul on their CV, next to incidental repairs after a collision for example, or other corrective maintenance). The youngest vehicles are the EU44s, but these are normally assigned to the international trains between Warsaw/Gdynia and Berlin.
