It goes quite fast. After the completion of the construction of Vectron locomotives for Deutsche Bahn, plus we haven’t seen new ELL lease locomotives, Siemens seems to have shifted its priority in the production to ÖBB. On 20.01.2020 we reported about the first two machines for ÖBB of the third batch, ordered in 2019; 1293 048 and 049. But meanwhile, the new five have been released too. An overview so far:

The new third batch:

  • 91 81 1293 048-5 A-OBB = Vectron 825 = Siemens 22664 > MMAL 10.01.20
  • 91 81 1293 049-3 A-OBB = Vectron 863 = Siemens 22703 > MMAL 10.01.20
  • 91 81 1293 050-1 A-OBB = Vectron 864 = Siemens 22704 > MMAL 13.01.20
  • 91 81 1293 051-9 A-OBB = Vectron 826 = Siemens 22665 > MMAL 13.01.20
  • 91 81 1293 052-7 A-OBB = Vectron 827 = Siemens 22666 > MMAL 13.01.20
  • 91 81 1293 053-5 A-OBB = Vectron 868 = Siemens 22708 > MMAL 21.01.20
  • 91 81 1293 054-3 A-OBB = Vectron 869 = Siemens 22709 > MMAL 21.01.20
  • 91 81 1293 055-0 A-OBB = Vectron 870 = Siemens 22710 > MMAL 21.01.20
  • 91 81 1293 056-8 A-OBB = Vectron 873 = Siemens 22713 > MMAL 30.01.20

This means we have to brace ourselves for the arrival of at least another 61 new ÖBB machines. Let’s recall:

  • Freight transport only: The ÖBB Vectrons are being ordered specifically for freight transport, to be operated by ÖBB’s freight division: Rail Cargo Group
  • 108 MS locomotives: All 47 existing machines, plus the 61 new ones now on order are multi-system.
  • Deliveries beginning in March 2020
  • Locomotives for Belgium and the Netherlands: 28 of 61 new machines will get a country-specific package including Belgium and the Netherlands. The Vectron has not yet been granted authorization for Belgium.
