In 2001 GySEV, an independent operator in the Hungarian-Austrian border area, ordered five ES64U2 type electrics from Siemens, together with MÁV, the Hungarian state operator. As GySEV 1047 series is technically identical to ÖBB’s 1116 type locomotives, it was possible to reduce the lead time for delivery of the first machine to only nine months. Between May and November 2002 the complete batch was delivered.
