[EU / Expert] Co’Co’, hybrids, Euro9000 – The strategy of ELP explained [updated]

The ‘biggest’ locomotive news of this moment comes from Switzerland, well it comes from Spain actually. Since Stadler Rail took over the Valencia plant from Vossloh, it has a heavy-haul Co’Co’ locomotives in its portfolio. Right now, as part of Stadler’s rapid expansion plans, this product group is being pushed to its limits. Originally Valencia was exclusively building Co’Co’ diesel locomotives – This design has now become the basis for whole family of products including hybrids and, eventually, very powerful electrics.

Lease company ELP makes sure these new locomotives will be available to European operators, soon. It will do that by offering full-service leasing solutions including preventative and corrective maintenance, spare parts, strategic spare parts, heavy maintenance reserves, and wheel re-profiling. Additionally, ELP will also offer innovative insurance packages

We spoke with Mr. Willem Goosen, CEO of ELP recently. He explains ELP’s current and future fleet strategy and discusses the advantages of six-axle locomotives in a market where four-axle machines are the default. And of course, he reveals the next steps of ELP’s expansion plan.
