[US] SEPTA ACS-64 electric locomotives enter service

On 11.07.2018, SEPTA locomotive 901 completed its inaugural run. It marks the start of the commercial use of a batch of 15 new ACS-64 electric locomotives in Pennsylvania, US.

The ACS-64 is an electric locomotive specially developed for the US market, its design based on the European Vectron platform. Siemens released the first SEPTA loco, the designated 901, from work in December 2017.

SEPTA needs the new electrics to improve reliability of its trains service. For now, the locomotive will be used in combination with existing rolling stock. In the future Chinese train manufacturer CRRC will deliver new double-deck cars.
