[CH] SBB RABe 503 022 in special livery for new Frankfurt a/M – Milan direct service

Swiss EMU no. 503 022 now has extra stickers promoting the new EuroCity-Express (ECE) service Frankfurt a/M – Milan, starting on 10.12.2017. The unit has stickers showing silhouettes of famous buildings in cities along the way on both its end cars and the Restaurant car. Also the flags of Germany, Italy and Switzerland are integrated in the design. In the interior other train types are shown for the different countries.

The name EuroCity-Express (ECE) for train services is new. It will only be used in Germany, in Switzerland and Italy the services will just be called Eurocity, the standard name for international trains. It is also a new marketing name of the German railways.

The service Frankfurt a/M – Milan is direct service via Basel, Luzern and Lugano (via the Gotthard Base Tunnel). A single trip takes around eight hours.  When travelling internationally to or from Italy, seat reservation is mandatory.

The unit in these images is SBB’s ‘ETR 610’ no. 503 022, named ‘Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’.
