[SE] Alstom sells 3 more Coradia Nordic EMUs to Östgötatrafiken – now 18 in total

In March 2008 Swedish rail operator Östgötatrafiken ordered five 4-car EMUs for passenger services in the Östergötland region. In 2012 the fleet was expanded as eight more EMUs were ordered. Today, Alstom published that it will built another three trains for Östgötatrafiken, known for its liveru with the large orange and red circles.

The new trains will be delivered in spring 2019 and they will be built in Alstom’s site in Salzgitter, Germany. Alstom is currently delivering an addiditonal 30 trains to Skånetrafiken and the new units for Östgötatrafiken will be an add-on to that production line.

Currently, Arriva (Deutsche Bahn) is the operator of the lines Norrköping – Linköping – Mjölby – Tranås/Motala on behalf of Östgötatrafiken. They have a contract until 2020. The EMUs Alstom is building for this line are of the ‘Coradia Nordic’ type, a member of Alstom Coradia family optimised for the (weather) conditions in Scandinavia. The are 74.300 mm long and have a top speed of 160 km/u.
