Last week Siemens released the first Avenio M tram for Ulm. Ulm’s municipal utility (Stadtwerke Ulm) ordered twelve Avenio M trams from Siemens for use on the future Line 2. Avenio M trams already operate in The Hague and Munich. The twelve 5-module trams will be delivered by the middle of 2018.
Each 31,47 m long tram consists of five modules, three short bogie car modules and two intermediate modules, together create a completely open and bright interior. The 100% low-floor trams have a driver’s cab at the front and an auxiliary operator’s cab at the rear. Both driver’s cab and passenger area have air conditioning. There are 2 areas for wheelchairs and strollers.
The trams have a special braking assistance system for running safely on the long slopes in Ulm’s networks.
