At this moment, Bombardier is speeding up the delivery of TRAXX AC3 locomotives to DB Cargo. The trick? Five ‘stock’ locomotives are being sold to DB Cargo, resulting in a ‘double’ production line.
Next to the standard production line (now at no. 187 131 > REV 26.07.2017) also five ‘stock’ machines are made ready for DB Cargo: designated 187 080 to 084. The first two are already in revenue service, 187 082 completed a test run on 27.07.2017, 187 083 did the same but on 28.07.2017.
According to Eisenbahn Kurier no.8/2017, the arrival of 187 080-084 does not change the total number of TRAXX AC3s on order for DB Cargo. This number remains 110.
In total, Deutsche Bahn now has called off 172 TRAXX AC3 locomotives, out of a frame contract of 400:
- 110x for DB Cargo (187 080-084, 100-131 and ongoing)
- 20x for DB Regio (147 001-020)
- 17x for DB Fernverkehr for Stuttgart – Zürich (147 551-…) arriving as of 2018
- 25x for DB Fernverkehr for Germany and Switzerland arriving as of 2019
