[DE] VAG Group receives second hybrid H3 locomotive for its Audi factory in Ingolstadt

The Alstom factory in Stendal is providing two three-axle shunting H3 to the V.A.G. (Volkswagen) Group, to be operated in and around the Audi plants in Ingolstadt (DE). The locomotives have a diesel engine (350kW) and a on-board battery pack. Audi thinks it will use its locomotives in battery mode for around 50-75% of the time, that could reduced diesel fuel consumption by 30-50% . Additionally, the emissions of the new locomotives will be substantially lower (CO2 reduction by 50% is expected).

Like the H3 locomotives previously ordered by V.A.G. (3 pieces for its Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg) and DB (5 pieces), the 1002 010 and 013 are part of the ‘Eco Rail Innovation program’ of the DB and nineteen partner companies.

In September 2015, the first locomotive (no. 1002 010) was delivered to Audi in Ingolstadt. No.2 (the 1002 013) arrived one year later. The new locomotive can operate for about two hours in electric mode. This will happen while driving inside the factory buildings. Audi states it will operate each locomotive around 3,800 hours per year. The two Audi hybrids are Alstom H3 no. 10 and 13 from the production line in Stendal (DE). Check their profile pages:
